We have a confirmed case of equine flu in Morayshire.  The yard owners have taken prompt and appropriate action to contain the disease, but here are some links to information provided by the Animal Health Trust to help you protect your horse from illness.

In summary, it is beneficial to have had a vaccination within the last 6 months (especially for any horse that regularly mixes with other horses).  It is also important, as always, to practice good biosecurity and hygiene habits.  This will help minimise the spread of flu but also other contagious diseases such as Strep Equi (‘strangles’).  These diseases are endemic within our UK horse population, and whilst not a cause for panic positive action should still be taken to help limit spread and clinical problems.
